I may look like an idiot, but what is this thing? I know lesbians always talk about them..what do they look like and how do they stop you from catching something nasty in your mouth?

You can buy them at the grocery store. Youcould try using saran wrap but I would not trust something that flimsy. a dental dam is made of 3 parts a u shaped plastic or metal strip frame the size of 5x4 in. with sharp hanging points on it, a rectangular rubber or latex foil and a metal open ring to be fitter over the tooth. the foil is made hole to fit a tooth and applied over it with special plier to keep in place the rubber dam and then the outer border of the rubber dam is hangged over the sharp points of the u shaped frame. the idea is that the dentist while working on a tooth all the debris from his work will be caught in the dam and won't fall down the patient throught. why do lesbians use I have no idea.

A dental dam is as the person above described it is used to isolate a tooth during dental procedures as not to infect the rest of the teeth. For oral sex for women it is placed over the opening of the vagina and clitoris. The idea is that they can still get the pleasure of oral sex but not the risk by coming in contact with bodily fluids. I don't know if the dental dam works as I am not a lesbian and have been married for fifteen years. I have to admire those that are in sexual relationships and use these to practice safe sex. Safe sex is important for both parties as you never know what someone may or may not have.

It is basically a condom cut into a square.It is made of latex just like a condom and it is big enough to cover the entire vaginal area.They protect the same way as a condom,preventing the exchange of bodily fluids.
