I had surgery on right knee. Dr. drilled 12 holes into bone to make bone marrow grow new cartiledge.name it?
Question:
Answers:
If you had the new procedure that helps you grow your own cartilage, you probably had Carticel (autologous chrondrocyte implantation). This procedurle drills small holes into which the surgeon then implants some of your own cartilage cells (which had been removed during an early procedure and grown in a lab). If this is what you are looking for, let me know and I will provide you a link or two to give you more info.
Or, you could have had a microfracture procedure, which is more commonly used in patients with less knee damage. This procedure also involves drilling small holes in the knee to induce bleeding, clotting, and thus tissue re-growth.

Sounds like the TOTAL KNEE replacement to me, but that ain't 12 holes that is excising the distal femur and the tibial plateau, oh, the patella is also taken off in this 4-8 hour procedure! OUCH!
