Is it possible for Doxycycline not to work for bacterial STD??
Question:
Answers:
You might have a resistance to doxycycline. Just because it is the "gold standard" doesn't mean it works everytime, it's just what the doctor starts with. Talk with your doctor, a change in antibiotics should do the trick. Also, you might try going to a urologist instead of a family practice doctor.
Other Answers:
Yes, there are bacterial infections that doxycycline doesn't cure. It depends on the type of bacteria causing the infection. A urine culture, not just a regular urine test, should be done to find out which bugs are there so that you can find the right medication. I also agree with the previous poster that a urologist might be better able to help.
You need to get a second opinion. There are so many things that could be 'up there', it's impossible to say what is what. It could be that you have a bladder or kidney infection. To be safe, see a urologist, he will be better able to help you than a GP.
