what is a pet scan?

Question:

Answers:
I had one recently and the scan itself is nothing to worry about. You'll be asked not to eat before the scan as this distorts the results. When you arrive you'll be given an injection of a fluid which highlights the relevant substances inthe body, as was also given a small dose of tranquilisers which helps you keep still as the scan takes a while. You then lie still for about an hour while the injection goes through your system.
The scan itself is like a CAT scan (if you've had one of those), you lie on a flat table and go through a big hole in the scanner. The scanner itself looks like a giant white, plastic, ring doughnut. You just lie very still for about 15 mins then it's over. I found it a bit uncomfortable as lying so still on a hard table made my back ache, but thats it.
It really isn't anything to worry or fret about, but I had the same problem, you can get the technical details, but no one tells you what it's realy like.
Good luck and I hope your results are positive.
