Asbestos. Quetion about asbestos.?
Question:
Answers:
It depends on what kind of roof it is (asphalt or cement), what kind of condition it's in now (is it in solid pieces or is it coming apart), and if what you're doing changes that. If it's in good condtion and solid, there really isn't much to worry about.
If it's already crumbling (called friable) or gets that way because of the pressure washing, you have 2 things to worry about. 1) The amount of asbestos we know causes problems is ridiculouly low. It doesn't take very much at all. 2) If bits of roof go flying every which way, you may have the EPA coming over and will not act amused at all. Something expensive is about to happen.

Depends on if any of the fibers will be dislodged. If you wear a good mask and don't do this type work every day you will probably be safe. Asbestos danger is from exposure over time and not from working near it a single time unless you directly inhale a pile of asbestos dust. However if the roof is old and crumbly you might want to give the job a pass. It's your call.
I would get in touch with the EPA due to the fact that this stuff will kill you in time, if you get any of the fibers in your lungs. I know because it is killing me now! Even a little is too much! Stay clear and get the pros to remove this extremely hazardous material! The stuff is so bad that they may clear the nearest neighbors homes till the site is cleared of the asbestos fibers.
