I am a 23 year old type 1 diabetic who has no insurance and and very little income. How can I get my insulin?

Question:
I filed for SSI and was denied and now I have lost my insurance. I am currently not working. I am taking Lantus and on average it is $85 a bottle. I am trying to find a way to get help with getting it because I have to have it and cannot afford to buy it.

Answers:
Many of the pharmaceutical companies offer medicine assistance programs for people who cannot afford their medications. I'm not sure who the manufacturer of this particular drug is, but you should try contacting the pharmaceutical company and asking them if they have any programs that can help you with this problem.

Other Answers:
Write to the company or call them and ask them if they have a program for people in your situation. Often drug companies will provide low cost or even free medications for people in your situation. If that doesn't work call your doctor even with out insurance sometimes they will have sample medications that they can give you.
It depends on what state you live in. There are different resources to help you in different states.
Many if not all drug companies offer their products at no cost or low cost to those that can't afford them. Call the Lantus manufacturer or distributor and talk to them about it. Same for diabetic supplies and other drugs.

Next thing you should do is to ask for an explanation from SSI as to why you were denied. We went thru that for our daughter. After many calls, letters, doctor visits, etc. they accepted. SO, Start calling and filling out the paperwork again and call, call, call. It's your health and you've got to stay on top of it and DON'T take no for an answer! They say no, you ask why and why again. Even to the point of being a nuisance. Because it means a lot to you and simply nothing to them.
try appling for medicare
or
medicad
i hope this helps
You might also want to go to your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist if he (or she) can give you some information on this. Our son has type 1 also and it's crazy how much diabetes supplies cost, but our pharmacist has been great with advice on how to save money at times.

Good luck
apply for medicade
Go to Lilly website and print out their drug assistance papers and fill them out and send it to them. Have to fill them out every three months. It's for People who have no health insurance. I should know this because at one time I had no health insurance. Take Care! Good Luck!
You need to apply for Medicaid immediately. If you are denied, you can take those papers to a local hospital and ask to speak with someone about applying for any financial help/ grants they may have.
After you have seen a doctor, you can then write, call or email the pharm. companies that make your prescription and they will send you forms.
Do not wait. Diabetes is not something to ignore. You MUST also get at least yearly dilated eye exams!
order it onilne you will get a whole box for a mouth or 6 mouth
See a lawyer about this SSI problem. It shouldn't cost you anything.

This problem must be solved. In a country such as ours that spends money on everything and everyone else that our own citizens have to go without the medical treatment so necessary for their well being.

E.R. vists, medication, hospitalization, etc., has destroyed too many lives because health insurance is so expensive.

There are millions working who are falling through the cracks because they work at a job that doesn't provide insurance or are self-employed.

Why does everyone applying on S.S.I. have to get a lawyer and pay them part of their benefits before they can get help. Is it the Lawyers' lobby?
when i see my endocrinologist, he gives me samples every time. That's 4 times a year, so I have 2 or 3 bottles of lantus and novolog in my fridge. I havent payed for insulin in about 4 years.
