Problem with night time hives?!?!?
Question:
Answers:
Damn - that used to happen to me all the time - at night, and usually only in the wintertime. I never took medication for it, but my doctor told me that it's usually something that's aggravated by heat (ie, using lots of heaters in the wintertime) and dryness. I drank lots of water, tried to keep my entire body cool, and especially tried to keep my hands cool (I was getting hives on my hands). I kept my hands cool by constantly putting a cool, creamy lotion on them. Good Luck, hope he feels better.

Hives and swelling of the lips suggests a serious whole-body reaction to some allergen or irritant. I'd see a doctor, regardless of whether or not he has insurance.
Not sure where it is you reside, but most hospitals will see him if he sets his alarm for 2:30 a.m. and goes in with his lips all swelled up, and help him to apply for medical coverage for the visit. If he is prescribed some sort of medication, have him explain to the doc who see's him that he has no insurance and could he prescribe the med. for a 6 mo. period...
