You will always have them. You can treat them, but not cure them.

You will not always have them if treated by a dermatologist. They usually freeze them. You have to go to the office for a visit. They are very common and your doctor is ued to dealing with them. Good Luck.

Yes they can be treated. Although they can come back, they usually don't. You should see a doctor. However, the best treatment is to use a cream called "Aldara", it is prescription only. If there is still an issue after using the cream, the doctor can destroy them using a nitrogen freeze wand.

First of, anal warts are caused by a virus called HPV (human papilloma virus). The correct term for a wart is papillom.

next, the treatment: if infected with the virus, its is impossible to get rid of it (im not talking about the warts). however, having said that, the warts are very easy to get rid of. there are several ways:

1. creams that stimulate the immune response (ie aldara).

I think these are a money trap, but the way they work is like this: they create an immune response in the area they are applied. so the body tries to get rid of the "stuff" in that area. basically the idea is to speed up the body's own defenses against the wart. however the success rate is not that high, and the treatment takes long (months) and VERY EXPENSIVE. also the immune response attack not only the foreign bodies (the warts) also attack the skin itself which can result in bad rashes, itchiness, dryness etc. especially when the area is close to the anus, which is much more sensitive then a skin. if coupled with haemorrhoids, the complications will be worse.

2. topical solutions (like condylox, which is not available in the us)

these are a bit better than the creams. they work by attacking the warts itself. condylox for example is basically a poison that kills the infected tissue. however again, it is expensive, treatment takes long, and warts being near the anus, using a poison is not recommended.

3. freezing (or sometimes called "burning").

the warts are sprayed with liquid nitrogen, causing a burning sensation (hence sometimes called "burning"). the procedure is very easy. if you go to a sexual health clinic in your local area, the procedure is free. and believe me they do a lot of those. and the spraying only targets a small area (the warts) thus after the procedure, there is virtually no pain. and during the procedure its nothing bearable.

you do it once, and IF (which is a big if) you do it again in a couple of weeks. if they ever come back again yo udo it again. beats trying to put on some cream or topical solution to a place you dont see 3-4 times a week (that is the frequency of use for the creams and solutions).

4. Doing nothing

the warts will go away by themselves anytime between 1-2 years however they might get worse, causing itching and bleeding. if you know you have them definetly go have them checked out at a free sexual health clinic, or at a general practicioner.

one important note:
if you had unprotected sex, the virus could have spread to your rectum (the inside of your anus). if the virus creates papilloms in the rectum, this (although not necessarily) might lead to colon cancer (especially in males). to get that checked, you should go to a gastroentrologist or a proctologist. If you had anal sex with the other person using a condom, this situation is VERY unlikely, however possible. in any case you have two options: 1 simply go to a doctor, or 2 wait until discomfort/itching/bleeding occurs.

if you always had protected sex then 2 might be an option. if unprotected, definetly 1.
