Why do so many servers in coffeeshops and restaurants grab your coffee mug around the rim.?

Question: While doing so, they leave their fingerprints all over the rim of the coffee mug and that is not acceptable anymore. Only grudgingly will the coffee be poured into a clean mug and I am looked at as if I am the idiot. The same happens with drinking glasses.

Answers:
This means that the Resturant is a grubby one or that the waitress or waiter hasn't been trained the right way to pick up glasses and cups.
