What is an ALCOHOLIC?

Question:
DOES HE/SHE BECOME ALCOHOLIC.OR IS HE/SHE BORN ALCOHOLIC?

Answers:
Alcoholism is the consumption of alcoholic beverages to the extent that such use causes physical or mental harm, or interferes with the drinker's normal personal, family, social, or work life. Such chronic use causes a diseased condition marked by psychological and physiological disorders. Most medical clinicians consider alcoholism an addiction and a disease influenced by genetic, psychological, and social factors and characterized by compulsive drinking with impaired control, and preoccupation with and use of alcohol despite adverse consequences.

Other Answers:
an alcoholic is someone that can't control the amount of alcohol they drink everyday as she or he is addicted to it
An alcoholic is someone that has a physical and psychological addiction to alcohol. They will do anything to be able to drink and need professional help. If you notice someone drinks excessively all the time or even just every weekend, then that could be a sign.
U r addidcted to it an cant stop drinking it like drugs u cant get off it then u go in to rehab
there is a debate on this. scientists have shown that people are genetically predisposed to addictions. for example, my grandparents were alcoholics, my mother was an alcoholic, and my father was an alcoholic and a drug addict. so therefore i have always been told i should never ever take a drink because as my dad likes to say, i'm just "an alcoholic waiting to happen". however, this does not mean that people like me are guaranteed to become addicts. i am 34, rarely drink, and have never in my life tried drugs. so while my father would believe that i was born an alcoholic i don't really think that's true. i have chosen not to follow the same path that my family has. so, to answer your original question, i believe the answer is both to a certain degree, but one must always consider that the individual does have the choice. and that is an important factor.
I used to be an alcoholic, now I'm just a drunk.

Alcoholics go to meetings.
People become alcoholics when they start going to twelve step meetings and believing in the rubbish they hear. Excessive drinking is a behavior choice just like anything and while it can be very difficult to stop it is not a disease. Calling it a disease is just another way of shirking personal responsibility.
i dont think they are born as alcholic. i think they become alcoh. i have seen a few people that start from a beer to rest in the evenings to a 6 pack.and more and more beers. my father was a aloch. and for the first 15 years of my life i seen it and i turned out fine. i dont drink BUT on special occaisions and that might be a glass of wine or a fuzzy navel. it has to do with the stress of peoples lifes some can handle stress some its hard to handle stress. but no matter what if you drink or not stress is there the next morning.
