Question:
i have lots of it behind my foot

There are some wonderful answers to this question, although I am not a Vascular Surgeon, I am living proof that most vein strippings do not do anything except leave a huge scar, the blood has to go some where so of course it's going to start a new route, there comes future veins, I went to a vascular surgeon that was very excited to operate on me at the age of 16, strange how he never checked up on me after he did his surgery. I was never fitted for stockings or anything, I went to the family doctor to have the stitches removed, chop slop job is what I call it, the end of the sutures were stuck inside my leg, that was a real treat!! Most people think it's caused from being over weight, that also is not true for all, my sister and I both are very small and we both inherited those from the gene pool. Yippieeeeeeeeee! I do like the vitiman therapy comment as I've done everything else imaginable and still to this day my legs look like the road map of Texas! Yes they are ugly, but will I ever have another surgery? Over my dead body!.. they do come back with support hose or not. Am I angry for the way I was treated? You betchya and I'll gladly share my story to prevent another vascular surgeon from taking advantage of another innocent victim. not all are like that but when money talks and bull malarky walks, we know the truth don't we? Get yourself some support stockings it does ease the pain, won't take them away but the pain does subside. Pleaseeeeeeeeeee do not jump into the first diagnosis and cure.. I wouldn't trust another surgeon again unless I were at the point of dying. Yep, thats right, it's a matter of trust. I have none now. I'll suffer with these for the rest of my life before I let someone do another hatch job on me :) Wish you lots of luck, take care of YOU.. Try the support socks and vitiman therapy.. I wish I would have tried that before jumping. :)

First step is that you should make a consult with a vascular surgeon.
You need to also have an ultrasound to check the veins in your legs. By having an ultrasound the technologist can rule out any blood clots and determine if your vein valves within your veins are working properly. When these valves dont work instead of the blood leaving your legs, it stays in the legs and your veins become distended and you get varicose veins.
There are different treatment options that will depend on what the ultrasound shows. Sometimes just wearing compression stockings, sometimes sclerotherapy(in office procedure where they inject solution into the veins) or there is minimally invasive surgery options -Laser and VNUS Ablation or the older method of vein stripping(dont do it unless you have to the newer techniques are better and easier on you.)
Lots of info, but I know my stuff I do this for a living.
