Do you think an oncologist should see you more then one time?

Question:
I went to an oncologist that was recommened to me for tamoxifin for breast cancer. I have non invasive cancer and atypical hyperplasia which is non cancerous right now. The Dr. told me after he gave me a perscription that I don't have to come back to see him. I should ask my Gyn Dr. to refill my meds. I thought he was blowing me off what do you think. And how often should I see an oncologist?

Answers:
I think I would change doctors. I saw mine every other month, then every three months, and now I am every six months. I had breast cancer, both invasive and non, and am also on Tamoxifen. I would get a second opinion...
It may not be that the doctor is blowing you off... Perhaps the doctor has a very full plate, and perhaps they honestly feel that you do not need to come back to see them. If it is possible to have your primary (or other) physician provide your med refills, then there really is no need for you to go back to the oncologist, UNLESS YOUR CONDITION CHANGES! If your condition were to change, of course you would go back to see the oncologist.

(Doctors can have very hectic schedules... If the person you saw was rushing, perhaps this was the reason. Of course, use your best judgment and your gut feelings to guide you. Maybe the person you saw was blowing you off because they're not a good people person... it can happen.)

Best of luck to you, with your situation with the doctor but mostly with your cancer treatment. Keep your head up!
Since you do not have invasive cancer, you have no need of an oncologist followup now.
