Answers:
pumps are about $5K to 6K. minimed and animas are good brands. have your doctor write a letter of medical necessity to your insurance company. you will need to have documentation of checking your BGs 3 - 5 x/day for a couple months; history of difficulty controlling DM with other regimens; or flexible changing schedule; history of hypoglycemia and/or hospitalization form lack of control. call the 800 numbers at the minimed and animas websites for assistance in acquiring a pump. good luck

cost should be covered by your insurance
LOOK ON Ebay
I Am far From kidding
I think they're about 5 thousand. But if you have insurance it should cover a good portion of the price. How many years?

I want one too
Animas about $5000 but insurance covered it about 5 years ago. Supplies are very costly each month. It is worth it. Costs less than ICU with DKAs.
Not sure where you are from. Here in Australia we can purchase them at the pharmacy or through Diabetes Australia. Contact your local Diabetes Foundation, they bare sure to steer you in the right direction, even giving discounts and the like.and more importantly.lessons on how to use them. Although, the machines these days are so very easy to use :)

Am a registered nurse, fighting to keep diabetes away from myself and have lived with my grandparents being diabetic all my life :)
My Disetronic retailed for $6000 but my insurance (Aetna) covered the full cost for me. Consider switching insurance companies (if at all possible) during their open season periods. That typically takes place towards the end of the year but it may vary from company to company.

Incidentally, I have a brand new pump (never used) that the company sent me as a courtesy replacement for my old one. After trying the pump for a year I decided that I was better off doing things manually. I don't know what kind of laws and regulations are in effect for selling pumps but feel free to contact me. I can help you research whether its "OK" for you to purchase mine (for waaaaay less than $6K btw). There aren't really any valid health concerns since I've never even removed it from the box. The pump supplies can easily be purchased on eBay (I sold mine on there with no problem but was NOT allowed to list the pump there). Anyway, it's just a thought.
They are about $7,000 initially with the monthly cost being about $300+.

I wear a pump and look at how much my insurance pays
My Deltec Cosmo cost $5000. My insurance paid for it.
I've answered a few about this earlier, but my insulin pump cost a total of $3,000. My insurance paid for 1/2. If you go to www.medtronicminimed.com you can do some research. I'm on the Paradigm 715 and love, love, love it. It's way worth the price, mentally and physically, his levels will get better, he will be less grumpy because he's getting better at controlling his disease, no more shots, etc. They let you pay in installments so that should help. There are also pump supplies which if my insurance company didn't pay for it would be $500.00 for three months supplies, but actually, it lasts 4 months or so what they supply me. Good luck
My Medtronic Minimed 715 cost $7,000.00 supplies and insulin are very expensive. After my insurance my pump was free and I only have co-pays for the insuling and supplies. Mr out of pocket with insurance is only about $100.00 per month.
