Know anything about polyps in the bowel? Hereditory?Do I have cancer?

Question:
I have had a colonoscopy for bowel cancer as my dad died of it when i was young. They found polyps and removed them. Been waiting 3 months for the lab to analyse them. getting results this afternoon. Any chance I have cancer?

Answers:
3 months? That is not acceptable.

Your physician should have the results within 7 days at the most. At my last colonoscopy I had a polyp removed and because of a prior history of colon cancer my Dr. took the polyp to the hospital lab that evening and called me that night with the results. Negative. He didn't want me to have to wait over the week-end for the news.

I suggest that you find another gastroenterologist. One who places a top priority on their patients. Ask around. Call your family physician and ask who they rec commend.

Do not ever wait for 3 months for any test result. You are more important than that. Good luck to you.

Please see the webpage for more details on Colon polypus, Colon cancer.
If the patient's colon cancer does not come back (recur) within 5 years, it is considered cured. This is because colon cancer rarely comes back after 5 years. Stage I, II, and III cancers are considered potentially curable. In most cases, stage IV cancer is not curable.
