There are 4 stages of HF, A B C & D. Stage 3 or C is when the doctors have done just about all they can and it is now up to the patient to take care of them self. (Short of a transplant= Stage D)
IF the patient is taking all their meds, Eating right and exericing from the doctors orders (Sometimes no exerice is allowed at this point) & the stents, pacemaker, A fibs etc etc are in olace AND working and no infections set in the person can live a long life, maybe 15 years or more!
Hope this helped

Prognosis is poor!! But what causes the heart failures?
I don't know the answer to that specific question, but I would think that if you took good care of yourself and kept a good attitude since then, the life expectancy would be much longer than the average life span of such individuals.

Hang in there and good luck!
Not familiar with the stages. We don't use that in the hospital I work in. What kind of shape are they in right now? Active at all? Kidneys working? At home or in the hospital? Would love to help if I knew more. Jeff the nurse in Nashville.
