Does an IV injection to the arm hurt?

Question:
I am having Scoliosis surgery the day after tomorrow and i really dont like injections.

Answers:
Having an IV put in may be a little uncomfortable when its first put in but once its in you won't feel it. You may feel some kind of a sensation if a medication is administered through it(some things can cause a warm sensation) but nothing painful. I've had IV's myself and I start them all the time (I'm a nurse)! Good Luck with your surgery!

Other Answers:
no just like a slight pinch for a second then it does not hurt at all after.good luck.
It really depends on the nurse practitioner. If he/she is a certified phlebotomist (blood tapping speciallies) you won't even notice.
It beats the alternative of continuing on with scoliosis.
what you think
don't look its only like a small pinch
Good luck hon. It isn't that bad. Just don't look when they put it in your arm and it will help you after the surgery to get meds into you quick if you need anything for pain, etc. Hope all goes well for you.
I've had an IV once and don't like injections either. When you get it, it stings like a bee sting then slowly goes away. Similiar when you give blood if you have ever done that.
i go an iv injection a few years ago. it was very painful and they had to stick me three times. just be calm and drink lots of water because it will help them see your veins better.
depends on who is doing it
An IV needle is a small flexible needle that is inserted into the vein to admnister medication and fluid. Once the needle is in place it shouldn't hurt. You will be more uncomfortable from the surgery and will be glad they won't have to stick you every couple of hours to give you pain medicine, they can administer it through the IV.
Not really, an experienced phlebotomist can deliver the needle quickly into the site without pain.....have you ever plucked a stray hair or an eyebrow? If you grasped a hair with a tweezers and slowly pulled the hair out....it's like that sensation. Don't fret, you'll be fine! Good luck with your surgery!
Blessings for a speedy recovery!

No, is really doesn't hurt any more than getting a shot. Don't worry about it at all, you'll be fine!

Good luck!!!
if your worried about it this much you might just pass out and then it won't hurt at all.
You will hardly feel the prick. Sometimes I do not feel even the slightest pain at all. Had plenty. Don't let your imagination run away with you. Most things that we anticipate are not nearly so bad as we imagine them to be. The dentist is a notable exception.
It does hurt a little, but only for a brief moment, unless the person doing the IV is inexperienced. If that's the case, the pain may last a little longer. One option if you're really afraid of the IV, is to ask your doctor to use a local anesthetic to numb the area prior to starting the IV. The shot would feel like a little pinch and once the area was numb, they could start the IV and you would feel nothing.

Good luck! You'll be fine. Don't think about it and don't watch while they do it. :-)
it tickles!
No, its just uncomfortable.
