What would be the best way to tell your family you have ALS?

Question: Doctors tell me I have a motor neurone disease and they are somewhat sure it may be als. I know there are 4 types of this disease but for now they will not rule out als. Going for more tests but as postive as I stay the outlook is grim.Mom is in her 70's and I fear what it will do to her.

i would let some family know but do it while theyre there in person, get advice from them on weather or not to tell your mom,good luck I am sorry to hear about your condition. It must be scary, feeling you are alone with this and afraid of how others may take it. It is much better though for your family to be informed, than for you not to tell them . it may be a good idea to take your mother or another family member with you the next time you go to the doctor and have the doctor answer any of their questions. There are probably support groups in your area for ALS . it is very difficult on the family, but there is hope.

well, you definitely have to tell them. you need their love and support. just tell them in person (not over the phone or anything) with everyone sitting, when you feel the time is right. ask them to pray for you. this is the kind of situation in which family is valued the most. good luck and i will pray for you.
