Is it possible to be only -occasionally- allergic to sea weed?

Question:
Once, when I ate some miso soup which had sea weed in it, I broke out into hives all over, for the first time in my life. But I continued to eat miso soup occasionally (because it's just SO good!) and it never happened again, even though they all had sea weed in them. I figured it was just a fluke, but then I used a sea weed toner on my face, and my face started burning like you would not believe and turned bright red. So what's going on, I wonder?

Answers:
It is possible you are allergic to different varieties of seaweed. Not all seaweed is the same. Talk to an allergist. It is important you figure it out, because not all allergic reactions are the same. This time you may break out in hives. Next time could be worse if you get too much of a certain chemical.

Other Answers:
You could be allergic to the strength of it. Or maybe you were allergic the first time, but your body is used to it now.

It is also possible the seaweed has a different level of chemicals in it from being grown in different places. Also, there are many varieties of seaweed.
