I have not smoked in 8 days. I woke up this morning and my lungs hurt when I breathed in deep. Is this normal?

Question:

Answers:
In my experience, yes, this is normal. Your lungs are working to clear out the pollution. Don't know your age or how long you smoked, but you might start coughing up stuff too. I hope you are quitting - look on the Internet about smoking, diseases, etc., it's all true - I have a lung disease, thankfully not cancer, and I'm not even old yet! Yes, it CAN happen to you. Take care.

Sounds to me like you need a cigarette, stat!
Yes, your lungs are healing themselves. Wait until you start exercising. Then you'll really regret smoking.
Just your lungs gettin better, yeah, its normal
Your Lungs Aren't Used To the arburt change..Go to a doctor. They may tell you you have a respitory* infection, or your lungs are just sore.
Yes.
i guess oxygen is unfamiliar to your lungs, being used as they are to carbon monoxide and other noxious fumes. your lungs are getting a purer and stronger dose of oxygen than they are used to. could be also that the numbing effect of all that nicotine is wearing off so the nerve endings in your respiratory tracts are more sensitized right now. so i suppose for a while this will happen and then as your body gets acclimatized things will improve. on the other hand your symptoms maybe completely unrelated to your quitting smoking. you should in any case get yourself evaluated by a doctor as you will need to monitor the damage you have already inflicted on your lungs.
that said, you have taken the right step and you should not let anything influence you into relapse. Good start and good luck!
I believe this is normal. I heard that you will experience flu-like symptoms soon after quitting. I recently quit but I sort of quit gradually so I didn't have it too bad but I still have a stuffy nose and such. By the way. I feel so much better without cigarettes in my life. I have my sense of smell and taste back and my voice isn't even as deep. You will be so glad you did it. Congratulations. 8 days is an eternity to a longtime smoker.
I think it's normal. I had a similar reaction for a WHILE after I quit smoking 18 months ago. You might even start coughing up some REALLY BITTER phlegm/mucus. That's just your lungs cleaning house after they're sure you're not bringing that crap back! But after a couple of weeks you'll notice that you're breathing better, your sense of taste and smell SEEMS heightened (in reality it's the same, it's just not covered up by smoke anymore), and you'll just feel better overall. Congratulations on your accomplishment and what you've achieved thus far. Hang in there, and don't give in to the temptation! Even now, when I'm around someone who smokes or if I get mad, I still want a cigarette..I'm not sure that it ever really goes away, but so far, so good..Again, congratulations, good luck, and God bless.
