I suspect I have strep throat but I can't see a doctor until tomorrow and I'm visiting an elderly person today

Question:
I'm really worried I will pass it on to her! How does it get passed on. I know I won't share any food or drinks and I always cough into my elbow, not my hands. Could she still catch it?

Answers:
If you are having a sore throat and cough, it doesn't necessarily mean Strep. Strep has a very distinctive trait and that is high fever. That is 99.9% of the time. If you have high fever then it is probably strep. I thought I had it too and went the Dr. when he heard that I didn't have the fever he didn't even do the strep test. Just put me on antibiotics for bacteria infection in throat.
Now about your coughing. for goodness sake man use a tissue! Your elbow is not sufficient to block germs.
If you can then I highly suggest you take the advice of all the others and cancel your elderly visit. But if you must go you could wear a ventilation mask.

Other Answers:
yes, its highly contagious

cancel Don't go near her!

You should really cancel. Just apologize. Strep can wreak havoc in the elderly.

don't go see the lady. cancel your appt. she'll be thankful.

you can pass it on to her cancel & tell her why she will understand. yes call and cancel!

it is contagious until you are on meds for 24 hours. dont go. Check the back area ofyour tongue to see if you have it. it will kind of look like a strawberry.

wear a mask. or postpone until you know what you have. I'm sure he/she will understand.

It is highly contagious. If her/his immune system is already compromised, Strep could be pretty serious.

It's best to cancel the appointment. Strep is contagious until you've been on antibiotics for 24 hours and it can be passed by casual contact. My kids are in elementary school and it goes around the classrooms *every* year. cancel, strep spreads really fast. it's better not to risk it by not going. after you get antibiotics for the strep and take three doses you'll be fine

YES! Puhleeze.by everything that's holy.postpone your visit with the elderly person; at least until you're well.until you know for sure that you do/do not have strep throat! I'm sure she'll appreciate it!

if you use caution like you said, everything should be ok..but what if you mess up?? It's dangerous for elderly people to get sick.check w/ a flashlight shined in your throat to see if you have white spots.if you do..don't visit elderly.

cancel if old people get sick they could die even if it is just strep throat. Maybe call the elderly person in advance of your visit and suggest she get her will in order. It's good that you don't let infectious disease contamination detur your visit to the elderly, because the nature of your business is most likely more important than their health. Is any of this making sense?

I'll counter everyone's advice just to be funny. I say..GO! Bring a deck of cards and a pot of tea and have a jolly of a time! :)
