It's not a good idea to keep prescription medication for more than a year. If you got them back in March 2001, I would say the max for keeping them and using them should be March 2002.

Even then, most pharmaceutical companies only have a 2-3 year expiration date on their original bottles. So even if the medication didn't expire for three years, according to the manufacturer, that would still be about 2004. That's two years ago. I would say toss them and get a new prescription if you really need them.
