I know a girl who said she caught HPV. Then she said the doctor's told her it went away. Is that possible?
Question:
Answers:
HPV or human papillomovirus can, if left untreated possibly turn into cancer. A great percentage of women have this virus but it is latent and you may never have symptoms. It can be treated with different procedures such as cryotherapy and then pap smears are taken every three months for a year, if the HPV cells do not appear for a year, you can go back to yearly paps. Whether or not it "goes away" is questionable, it can be in remission for long periods of time and never manifest itself with symptoms again but yearly pap smears are essential in monitoring this.
No. It goes into remission. She may have misunderstood what the doctor was saying.
