15 month old boy munched on a bird carcass while in the backyard. Will he necessarily get sick from this?

Question:
We found our 15 month son with a dead baby pigeon in his mouth. He had already bitten off the wing. We don't know how much (if any) he swallowed. The next day he had diarrhea for about 5 hours (5 times). That's about the only symptom he's had. His mood has been fine and he's had no fever. The diarrhea seems to be slowly dissipating. If no more symptoms show up does anybody know a good reason why we should have him seen by a doctor? Any particular bird-borne illness that we should worry about?

Answers:
I guess he'll build up immunities. I remember a time when children would be able to play outside they would eat all kinds of things. 15 months is a little young to be out on his own. Where was the supervision?

Oh well. My kids used to eat bugs, get their hands dirty. They're fine. Children these days are protected from too many things outside. Mothers would rather have their immunity systems confused with too much antibiotic than for them to, heaven forbid, be sick once in a while.

Colds, sniffles, runny noses, even mumps, measles, and chicken pox. If you don't want your children to ever be sick.....PUT THEM IN A HELMET because life's going to be a bumpy ride.

(Get the Brad Stein CD "PUT A HELMET ON." It's hilarious. The kids can even listen to this one!).

Other Answers:
You really should have went to a doctor if you felt he ate some or had it in his mouth. They would have given him antibiotics to kill off anything he could have picked up from that. there is West Nile Virus to think about. Contact doctor please,
take care
really it depends mostly on the condition of the bird, the concern would be the backteria that would have been allowed to grow there. there are many backeria possibilities, he might get sick for a few days.
as long as he dont have a fever and is bowls are working right he should be ok just keep an eye on him for a couple of days[ oh keep dead birds away from him]
I would have had the doctor on the phone in about 30 secs. What if the bird has bird flu or haven't you seen the news in about a year? I can't even imagine what he was exposed to, parasites.
That is just totally disguising and I cannot believe that you'd ask a bunch of strangers, more than half are definitely stranger than other. Good lord woman, get to know your doctor.
omg.....i would be freaked out.. theres the bird flu.. among others west nile virus.....i would at the very least call his dr and get his opinion ..
