do you have a list of the best hospitals in New York for Heart Transplant Surgery?

Question:
My daughter was told that she would need a heart transplant. She says that she is committed to Albert Einstein, but I have someone who is on the board of directors at NYU who says that he can get her in there.

Answers:
You may be asking the wrong question. You should ask who is the surgeon. It is his or her skill that youir daughter will rely on. Most docs work independently. They are not employees of the hospital The very best can work at virtually any hospital they want.

Other Answers:
My friends son just had a kidney transplant at Stony Brook University Hospital. He's doing great.
Sorry, James T, but that's not generally true with transplant surgeons. They work for a particular transplant hospital, they're not freelancers. The qualifications of the surgeon certainly do matter. But you'll also want to consider which hospitals are more or less aggressive in the patients they accept (and which surgeons within those hospitals). Then consider whether you want your daughter to have a more aggressive surgeon or a more conservative one (there is no right answer - depends on your situation).

I've heard good things about NY Presbyterian Hospital.
