what helps you when you get a migraine?

Question:
I tried the doctors and they are full of crap. I tried natural home remedies and they don't help either. What can you sugggest?

Answers:
the doctors are full of crap? why, because they wouldn't give you a shot of demerol?

seriously, have you tried the "triptans", such as Imitrex and Relpax? they are actually so effective for migraines that they are used to diagnose them. in other words, if one of them doesn't work on your headache, chances are it isn't even a migraine, or it may be a combination headache of more than one type.

for a combination or cluster headache, it's always good to just try some over the counter Excedrin Migraine, plus 25 mg of Phenergan if you have it. then try and rest in a dark room for at least an hour.

BTW, the person who said to ignore the caffeine suggestion is just wrong. caffeine is a trigger, but once a migraine begins, caffeine can also help: one of its metabolites, Theobromine, is a vasodilator, and increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain and muscles.

Other Answers:
Sleeping and caffeine
Coke and asprin.
excedrine .strait up
Aspirin
Cold compress on the forhead, quiet, no lights and Excederine migrain. You may also have Cluster headaches. I get those and there is nothing you can do about them .
i put ice and go to a dark room to sleep. i take alleve too
I know this sounds crazy, but squeeze between your thumb and pointing finger.that will help. Also, squeeze the very top of your nose.
puttin a bag of ice on it!! it works for me!!
have sex and stop stressing on what is bothering you and smoke some weed.
Sex, its gets your mind off it . Actually when you have an orgasm it sets or endorfins to the rest of your body and it help. I really dont know how it helps but does.

i get them too
a "hard" warm shower. pressure of the warm shower on my nape. that's a relief. and 500mg mefenamic acid for the pain.
I'm with ya. Nothing has ever really helped me before, either. I've tried every over the counter med. and I think I've become immune to them. Immetrex didn't help me. Sorry, I really can't help. Good luck and let me know if you find anything!
Go to a homeopathic or naturopathic doctor and get tested (via blood) for food allergies. Scratch tests done by allergists do not work for this issue.

Personal experience and study. my migraines have been cured.
Tylenol
I get them too. I feel for you. The meds the doctor has me on makes me feel yucky so I only take them when I absolutely cannot kick it with OTC meds. I usually take the Tylenol Rapid Realease. If it's still there after an hour, I take two more. Try to lay down and rest for about a half an hour. This isn't a sure fire cure or fix all, but it does help.
caffine is a major trigger of mirgaine ignore that other person!

water, silence, darkness & sleep

zomig works for me but i know meds do not work for everyone have you tried different meds?

there are some very good web sites out there with tips on things that can trigger migraines - you should check them out!! just google migraine triggers
death
www.thefirst.originallimu.com/. it works for alot more than headaches though. If you want to try this sign up as a distributer and get it cheaper. Also works on high blood pressure, arthritus, and to many other things that go wrong.
Take 2 motrins
If you can see take a hot bath but don't get your face or head wet. Then put a cool cloth on your head. Get in bed and turn the lights and TV off and rest. Try not to get stressed. I think you need to find the right doctor. If it gets bad go to the hospital.
Get a neurologist. I had doctors telling me to "take Advil" - as if that helped! I was diagnosed with white matter lesions on the brain, which can be treated with steroids. Since I"m pregnant I can't take that but I have been prescribed proper painkillers - first Percocet, then Demerol.

If you can't get a good neuro, then try some of the following - caffeine (hot coffee works best for me), cold compresses on your head and neck, tiger balm on your temples, massage and/or chiropractic treatment. I didn't find them too helpful but any little bit helps. Good luck - keep trying to find a Dr who will listen to you.
You need some real pain killer which can only be prescribed by a Dr take the recommended dose THEN if you can purchase a migraine stick from a chemist or some Tiger balm rub onto your temples AND lie in a darkened room, place an ice pack at the base of your neck this reduces the blood flow to your head and reduces the pounding.
When I get a migraine, I take excedrin for migraines and lay down and go to sleep. When you wake up you should be feeling better. Good luck.
Nothing helps me most of the time. When I am lucky though this really powerfull stuff helps me. I have to take like 5 pills of it though. But my doc tells me to.
You should try a natural remendy called Feverfew, it works great for me.
Ever try massage? I have lymphedema and get some nasty headaches. I have a friend who has very bad migraines, my father gets them too from old injuries to the neck. The best things that I know of that help alot are:

ice on the head, moist heat on your upper back, laying quiet or with soft music in a dark room, try some coffee and take advil something with ibuprofen to relax the muscles and help circulation. If you can get a massage to the trigger points in your neck, shoulders and head it will help alot. Chiropractic helps too. Biofeedback and image visualization helps too.
i usaully turn off the lights and go to sleep when i wake up my headache is just about always gone.
This was my reply to a question like this 4 months ago.
I guess it worked for her! Hope it does for you too.

so what you think
I would look in a totally different direction to get relief.

There is a one-time treatment Atlasprofilax that usually makes the migraine disappear - of course there is no guarantee.

I have experienced the amazing effects myself. :-)

Now, the treatment is available in California and Europe only, costing approx. 220 dollars. And it's worth to travel a far way to make the experience!
