Should diabetics with mild nerve damage to their feet stand for longer periods of time?
Question:
Answers:
No! Standing for longer periods could cause more damage.
It's important to rest at intervals & to elevate the feet to get blood flowing back to the toes. It's also good to use a recliner/recumbent type exercise bike to increase circulation. This type of stationary bike allows one to exercise but won't put too much pressure on the feet.
When my diabetic hubby's feet got to the point that his toes were unresponsive & appeared petrified, I began massaging them on an almost daily basis to improve the bloods circulation to his toes.He also used his recumbent exercise bike. Slowly his toes started improving. They got back their color & he was able to wiggle them on his own. He was no longer tired out from walking for short distances. Before this, because of the pain, he wasn't even able to walk around long enough to complete a short shopping trip.
I'm convinced that nerve endings form new connections when they are massaged, & allow blood to flow more freely, bringing them the much needed oxygen to the toes. This is what revives them, & helps restore them. I sware it was like seeing his toes come back to life.

I would say no. That makes blood pool in your feet causing them to swell and hurt. Your feet are most at risk, take care of them and take a load off.
No, not without support hose.
Not necessarily, but diabetics Should perform meticulous foot care. They should make sure to keep them clean and dry and to check the Bottom of their feet with a mirror weekly for breakdown.
I would ask my doctor. Your pain should be your guide as well as swelling. You do need to take breaks and get off of your feet. If you work somewhere you get breaks, make sure and take them and put your feet up for the break time.
My son has been in a lot of pain and burning from neuropathy, sounds like you are not hurting too badly, but let the pain be a reminder you have to take care of your feet.
You also need to wear comfortable shoes with a large toe box so you are not putting undue pressure on parts of your feet.
Go on the web and put in diabetic shoes/ don't worry if they aren't in style your feet are more important.
Good luck, take care of them. My son is basically unable to do anything but lay in bed with his feet in cold water to keep them from burning so bad he screams with pain and is on meds for pain that do not help the burning.
Good luck and keep me posted.
