At what level should I worry about ALT?
Question:
Answers:
If you are referring to the laser treatment ALT for glaucoma then it is a very safe and effective (up to 80%). However I would only have it done by a glaucoma specialist and not just a general ophthalmologist.
If you're referring to ALT as in liver enzymes, if it's outside of the normal range (usually above 35 or so depending on which lab you go to) that indicates damage is occurring to the liver. You should definitely see a specialist, such as a gastroenterologist. They routinely deal with the liver and can do further testing to see why your liver is inflamed. Some diseases, such as Hepatitis C, have no outward symptoms but quietly cause liver damage for years unless it is discovered through tests such as the ALT. Good luck.
