What are the symptoms for genital herpes?

Question: When I was about 13 or 14 I started getting sores on my labia right around my period. When I asked my then gyno what it was he said I probably was having a sensitive reaction to a certain kind of soap. I'm 21 now and I still get the sores, i've been trying to use non-allergic soap and it doesn't work. I'm wondering if its herpes because I usually get the one sore in the same spot over and over again...it bleeds and itches a lot. Is this herpes?
