why do deaf and blind children pinch other pople. he can see some.?

Question: I have a 3 year old grandson who can see some with one eye and has two hearing aids .he 90% deaf . he was born at 1#9oz and was not suppose to live. He is very bright, remembers everything that he can see and hear. complete books. he just pinches other poeple at school , we think it is because he can quit here and wants them to know he is there?

My educated guess would be that your Grandson is trying to get attention and is frustrated with his lack of being able to communicate with his peers. He sounds extremely bright and he must want to share that with others! I wish I could've helped you more. I wish your Grandson the best of luck. I bet he'll learn to work through these frustrations. My son was in the NICU for 8 weeks when he was born. Due to all of the medical interventions, ect. He has 90% hearing loss too. He wears hearing aids in both ears, as of 6 months ago. He is 6. Up until this point, he was acting out on all of the children in his class, hitting, screaming, anything to get attention. I told his pediatrician, who referred him to a counselor. We did play therapy for 6 months (once weekly), and moved him into a hearing impaired school. Ever since then, he has been nothing but a sweet heart. Everyone loves him.
What this turned out to be: Frustration! Noone understood him, and he couldn't understand them. He needed more face to face interaction to understand. Now, he has turned a 180 in school and loves to be there. I recommend counseling and a specialized school (especially w/ an IEP) . I wish you the best of luck!
