Blood sugar issues?

Question:
I have had many of the symptoms of diabetes-without realizing it-for quite some time and I really started having problems with sugary foods and potatoes about 3 weeks ago. I went to the doctor and he ruled out several things with blood tests. He said that I was indeed showing many of the symptoms of diabetes. He did a random test to see what my blood sugar was and it was still in the normal range but I had been exercising at work. I had a 3h gtt done and was told that 2 of the values were very low but I don't know which 2 yet because I can't get in for a follow-up until Wednesday. I was having so much trouble with sugary foods that I DRASTICALLY reduced the amount of sugar I was consuming about two weeks before the 3h gtt. Is it possible that by reducing my sugar intake I have skewed the results? Could I still be producing high amounts of insulin due to past inefficiency thus lowering my bs without the huge amounts of sugar being present in my system? I know almost nothing about this.

Answers:
High insulin production occurs as we age, due to a slowdown of the production of other chemicals that help control it. The slowdown of the production of the other chemicals is partially caused by high insulin - a vicious circle.

The book I read after being diagnosed hypoglycemic (kind of the opposite of diabetes, but also caused by high insulin), was "Enter th Zone" by Barry Sears, Ph.D. It really helped explain why I was overproducing insulin, and what foods really help keep it under control - and why.

I am eating 5-minute (the old fashioned) oatmeal 3 times a week now, to get more gammalinolenic acid in my diet.

www.hufa.org has some info on low blood sugar. If a 3h gtt is a 3 hour glucose tolerance test, then sometimes it can catch low blood sugar - but sometimes, if the low happens after the 3rd hour, it does not (my low came at 3.5 hours in a 5 hour glucose tolerance test).
