I'm having my gall bladder removed next week (laproscope) - What should I expect after the surgery?

Question:
I've never had stones, but it doesn't eject bile due to hormones (estrogen) causing it to slow down. I've waited a year to have the surgery and have finally given in. I've heard you can eat anything and then some people have diareah really badly.

Answers:
For the first 24 hours or so, expect to feel a bit gassy. They inject the abdominal cavity with air to work easier. You'll also have to go to bathroom a lot because they pump you full of fluid, too. :0 I had four different incision cites that they "taped" together. Post op care was easy, though I could not comfortably stand up straight for about a week. Make sure that you do not get the incision areas wet, and when you do take a shower, just pat dry. As for food, really greasy foods might not agree with you anymore because the gall bladder emits an enzyme that helps break the grease down. Best food you could eat for the first week is jello with cool whip and soups - I lived on it for awhile! Good luck and don't worry about it.
Expect to have pain at the site, a lack of appetite, general weakness and feeling tired all the time. Likely they will give you a good amount of pain medicine that will put you out for a few days. You should expect to be away from work for at least a week.
