Should I take a glucose tolerance test?
Question:
I am already weak and 30 g of sugar can give me a racing heart and make me fly off the handle & make it hard to breathe, etc. This will be 75 g of sugar, liquid form (worst kind) on an empty stomach. I don't see the point in torturing myself like that. Why don't doctors just believe people without torturing them with such tests? And why not adjust the level of sugar to the specific person?? What is WRONG with these doctors??
Answers:
You can buy a glucometer at any pharmacy and test yourself. You don't need a prescription to get one. They are expensive but peace of mind is worth a lot. Test yourself first thing in the morning. The fasting blood sugar should be under 100. Test again 2 hours after eating. Again it should be close to 100. If your tests are higher take the glucometer to the doctor as proof of your suspicions.

nothing, wrong in taking GTT.
You should try to control your reaction to 30g of sugar and 75g of sugar. It is mental.
Well, these test are neccessary to see, how much is you metabolism is out of control. The doctor can only help you, if he know how big is the damage.
And it gives two different problems, the doc can see, what of the two is yours.
Some of your reactions can solve too out of your awareness.
Ask your doctor to run HbA1C test (3 month glucose test). If it is elevated above 6, you're diabetic.
As a diabetic myself, I understand the effects that excess sugar can have on the body, both physically and mentally.
There is no need to put your body through a glucose tolerance test if you have concerns about the sugar content. I never had one to be diagnosed dabetic, nor have I had once since. Ask for a fasting glucose level test (they will take a blood sample after fasting for 10 hours, then again 3 hours after you eat a simple breakast). You can also ask for a HbA1C test, which will let the doctor see how extream your blood glucose levels have been bouncing around over the past 3 months.
There is no need to take the syrupy orange drink test (ick), but it is important to get yourself checked out if you think you might have complications with sugar.
Have you considered going and having a blood test done to check your level at the time of testing or maybe even doing a 24 hr urine test along with it? Maybe start with that and then work up to the more complex tests. And do you ever do any home blood glucose level testing by doing finger sticks on a regular basis? A daily log of finger sticks each day would give you something to show your doctor as proof to your blood sugar levels. Just a few thoughts to share with you.
