Has anyone had srugery to correct a deviated septum?

Question:
Almost a year ago I was in a bad car accident and completely shattered my nose. Now I can hardly breathe through my nose because I have a deviated septum. I was wondering how exactly they correct it? Do they break your nose again and reset it? Also, when I broke my nose in the accident I got splints put in my nose. Do they put splints in your nose when you have surgery to correct a deviated septum? Any information as to what I can expect would be greatly appreciated.

Answers:
I have had this operation done twice 5 years apart and they broke my nose each time and reset it. After each operation they stuck gauze up my nose to absorb the blood and it was removed the next morning and if you are unlucky as I was some fresh blood may pour out of your nose straight after. (nothing to worry about)
I did not enter any beauty contests for the next 2 weeks because
of the swelling and bruising but I can breath so much better now.
It is so worth it. ( I was in hospital for 2 days each time)

My mom had that done. It's painful, but worth it according to her. She was on pain meds for a couple of days and didn't move AT ALL except to pee and eat yogurt or ice chips or something.

She's glad she had it done though!

I had it done and I guess I had a very good doctor cause I had very little pain and no bruising. It was diffidently worth having it done. easy operation but painful
no harm at all as the nose is completly cartilage and no side effects..if that interferes badly with ur respiration do it and no problem
