test results show serious blockage of carotids,?

Question:
so can we expect something to be done to correct it in a fairly short period of time, pretty worried about strokes. Echocardiogram done today, took a good 45 min., dont know results yet. Marti Parks

Answers:
Carotid arteries supply your brain with blood, thus oxygen and all other vital micro-structures. Do worry, but don't worry too much, because if your carotids are becoming less usefull, you still have jugular arteries which will do the same job while your doctor is sorting out your carotids. Treatment will depend on the causative factor for blockage. You could be treated for cholesterol if this is related to it. Surely surgery will be the last option since it goes with potential complications of disturbing a very important structure embedded in your carotids (carotid baroreceptors) and which plays a good role in controlling blood pressure.

Other Answers:
You can do chelation therapy, but that takes about a year. Doesn't always work, but is generally safer than surgery.
Your doctor might recommend an endarterectomy to clean out the carotids. Depends on how severe it is.
A stent can be placed inside an artery to keep the artery open and allow blood to flow past plaque blockages.

Carotid stenting is a new treatment that provides an effective means of reestablishing blood flow through blocked carotid arteries.

There is also the carotid endarectomy that is performed to remove the blockage.
carotid endaterectomy would be the best treatment. talk with ur dr
