Is it safe to get a tattoo if you are diabetic?

My doctor told me that the ink can easily get infected in the skin and get swollen, ive seen that happen to someone at diabetic camp :( but all these people got a tattoo :)

help cure diabetes!! im raising money with JDRF.org to find a cure..penny? quarter? dollar? anything will help!!

I got a tattoo yesterday and on the questionaire form they make you fill out, it did ask if I was diabetic. I didn't think to ask why that would be an issue though. I would call a tattoo parlor and ask them.
