Why is there no big fundraiser for Hepatitis C?
Question:
Answers:
Actually there is quite a bit of research to try and cure hep c going on. Schering and Roche both made billions from their pegelated interferons. There is another hep C drug about to hit the market whose manufacturers stock has been real hot recently. The market for hep C cures is so lucrative that private research is being done all the time.

In many countries reusing medical needles, unsafe vaccination policies and selling blood for transfusions are the primary vectors for the spread of hep C, so things are different in different countries. For example, thousands of GIs in the US were infected by dirty vaccination injection guns during the draft years of the Vietnam war and I'm sure this same type things happen in other countries as well that helps spread the virus.

The number one reason Hep C continues to be transmitted is by sharing needles. I'm not saying people can 't get it other ways, and I know for a fact that they do- just that: Why would people want to start a charity for a "bunch of smack-heads?" That's the way society sees it.
My understanding is that if you have genotype 2 there is a 80-85% chance you can be cured of it and it will not show up in the blood anymore. They use interferon shots 3 times a day for 6 months to 18 months.
