Argument, please help..conce. Herpes.?

Question:
A friend of mine has Herpes simplex where every once in a while he gets this nasty sore on his lip. He treats the outbreaks, but hasn't had one in a long time. His girlfriend says that he could give it to her during oral sex, he says no. They want me to be the tie breaker, but I'm staying out of it. Who is right?

Answers:
Yes Herpes simplex, whether oral (usually HSV type 1) or genital (usually HSV type 2) can be transferred to a sex partner through skin contact. Transmission rates to a partner is significanly lower during times when there are no obvious lesions, but still possible. There is a much higher rate of transmission when there are visible active outbreaks.

HSV 1 has lower infectivity rates compared to HSV type 2. Prophylactic therapy days prior to sexual activity up til days after it with Acyclovir at least 400 mg twice a day may decrease risk of contracting herpes, but is not a guarantee.

Other Answers:
The girlfriend is right.

He can give it to her. There is no way i would ever let him lick my gash.

The girlfriend is 100% right!
It can go visa versa.

Yes he can. He can transfer the virus to her if he is having an active outbreak and even if he is not. It is called viral shedding.
She can get HSV 1 genitally.
If he has this he needs to educate himself on it.
