What does anyone know about the rare skin disease called Hidradenitis Supparativa?

Question:

Answers:
Some random facts for your consideration:

It's caused by blockages in the apocrine sweat glands and hair follicles.

It's not contagious.

I've had this disease for over 10 years. Luckily, I have a mild case in comparison to some.

It has been hypothesized that it's hereditary. Mine is.

It affects more women than men.

It usually onsets around puberty, or after a major hormone shift, such as pregnancy.

It can effect the axilla, breasts, groin, thighs, buttocks, and scalp.

Effective treatment is hard to come by, and varies from person to person.

I've had a lot of luck with central air conditioning, 500 mg tetracycline once daily, and topical clyndamicin gel.

It's not as rare as the CDC would have the public believe.

Compassionate and understanding doctors and dermatologists are hard to come by, also.

HS is recognized by the Social Security Administration as a Disabling Disease in certain circumstances.

If you believe you have this horrible, painful, disabling disease, please seek medical attention as soon as possible. I realize it may be embarrassing, but there are treatments available that may help you. Please have a look at the links I've provided, as well.

Best of luck.
Boils are a form of skin abscess that can appear anywhere on your body. Skin boils first appear as tender, red marks on the surface of your skin, about half an inch wide. At first this might not seem so bad, but in as little as 24 hours, this red spot can grow into a painful boil and pus-filled infection on your skin.

Boil skin infections are usually caused by the Staphylococcus bacteria. As your body fights the bacteria, a host of white blood cells enter the site, creating a pus-filled center. Typically, boils can:

grow rapidly
become as large as golf balls in size
form a head enabling the boil to drain
last anywhere from 7 days to 2 weeks
cause excruciating pain
There are a number of different types of boils, though they all have the same basic makeup. Every boil will begin as a red mark and then grow in size. Your body will always try to fight the infection, so every type of boil will fill with pus. However, different types of boils will develop on different areas of the body.

This type of boil affects the underarm or groin areas and can be quite painful. Underarm boils are particularly common, and are caused by inflamed sweat glands that become infected.
Not good.
