Itchy red bumps all over body?

Question:
I started to have very small red dots and now they developed into bigger red spots that are very itchy. They are on my legs, my butt, my back, my feet. I was thinking it might be hives but after looking it up, I dont think that is what it is. My two brothers and mom had it first and they went and seeked medical treatment but I have no way of getting ahold of them to find out what it was. I know my brother was given prednazone (sp?) does anyone know what this might be or why they gave him that medication? tia

Answers:
Prednizone is a steroid that's used to treat allergic reactions, so you're brother's rash is probably a result of an allergy. You might have an allergic reaction if you have come into contact with something new recently--could be anything from a different type of laundry detergent to animal hair. However, the fact that the rash is only on one part of your body is important. It's possible that it could be a heat rash--you can get those often from doing activities like sunning on a swimming raft, where the sweat on your back can build up and irritate your skin. But skin rashes are hard to diagnose, because there's so many causes. You'll need to see a dermatologist, especially since your rash is getting worse. In the meantime, try not to scratch it. Get some ointment like Caladryl, which will help keep the itching under control. And good luck!
