You must heal your digestive tract so that it is resistant to stomach acids. The acid blockers and neutralizers do not cure this problem they only temporarily reduce the acid which actually makes foods harder to digest and thus ultimately makes the problem worse. Take this advice if you would like to help heal your digestive tract and stop relying on all of these crappy medications 1)Buy a juicer and every morning make fresh celery and apple juice. I use 3-4 stalks of celery and 1-2 small or 1 very large apple. Add to this 1 heaping tablespoon Greens Plus, a green powder made by Orange Peel Enterprises, and available from The Vitamin Shoppe or most health food stores, also add 1 tablespoon milled flaxseed also available in healthfoods stores, usually sold in a vacuum packed gold bag. One company that makes it is Randolf and James flax mills, also add some water to make the drink about 14-16 ounces and according to your taste. Drink this drink every morning on an empty stomach 2) Buy slippery elm capsules or powder and use about 4-6 capsules or a teaspoon of the loose powder to make tea . I dissolve the powder with a small amt of soy milk and then add boiling water and or more hot soymilk and sweetener. I drink this instead of coffee. 3) Buy glutamine powder, again available as a powder, dont get the capsules, and drink one teaspoon in a glass of water once or twice a day
Doing these things will help to heal your digestive tract.Good Luck! Before I happened upon this regimen I suffered many years of misery, many"gastroenterologists" advice which was more ppi's and one even reccomended surgery to sever my vagus nerve! Thank God I avoided this "advice". Ive been well 10 years after suffering for 9.

My 3 month old baby has acid reflux. When she was 2 months ahe refluxed in the middle of the night and it cut off her air way.we had to rush her to the emergency room. She was taking zantac for it now she takes prevacid.and if that doesn't work. She'll have to have an operation where their tighten something up in her chest so she won't keep blocking her air way when she refluxes.Acid reflux is a horrible thing to deal with so good luck!
You are a candidate for surgery if ever I heard of one.

The procedure is called a nissen fundiplication. It is done laparoscopically, through five small incisions. They wrap the top of the stomach around the bottom of the esophagus and stitch it together to put pressure on it and hold the esophagus closed. They also fix your hiatal hernia (which you probably have) at the same time. Ordinarily you're out of the hospital in a day or two. Recovery takes four to six weeks; you'll be on a liquid diet for some or all of that time. Afterwards you can't burp or vomit, you can't have fizzy drinks, and you have to chew your food very thoroughly. But it's all worth it.
I have acid reflux, but not that bad. Honestly, since you have other health problems such a diabetic, IBS, etc. I wouldn't attempt anything here without first consulting your doctor. Just trust your doctor and if you think he's jacking you around, then go get a second opinion. The only thing that is can suggest is to suck on a peppermint. It should calm down the heartburn/chestpains a little bit.
good god.well I was going to suggest alot of stuff but you can not do anything can you?! Try eating bread or crackers. It will help neutralize the acid. I do that. I hate milk. And you have to calm down. I know it sounds stupid.nerves play a big part of it. I am sure you know this.but you have to cut damn near all spice from your diet. I know how you feel. I have ulcers and acid reflux too. Just relax.getting worked up does not help
Eat an apple before you go to bed.(or a slice)
Your reflux will not happen that night.

Eat an apple daily before bed.(or a slice)
Your reflux will never come back.

I'd paid $ for this remedy. It works like magic. Unbelievable.
Are you certain it is simple acid reflux which is most often referred to as GERD? Have you had an EGD to look into the stomach and make certain there are not any structural problems (such as a hernia)? If you have not had an EGD..that would be my next step.
Sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. I have never heard of anyone being sick from Prilosec or Prevavcid, or Acifex. Are you taking these medications at least 30 minutes before eating? Because if you are not, they won't work. These meds prevent gastric acids from being released into your stomach. Therefore, they need time to work before eating. If you haven't done so I suggest you try them again with this in mind. It sounds like you should be on them twice a day. Are You? I'll bet you are having a lot of trouble at night trying to sleep. Are you having to sit up or sleep on 2-3 pillows to sleep or even in a chair? If so, this is a sign of a hiatal hernia ( you can look on the net for an explanation). You definately need to have an EGD (where a scope is placed down your mouth while in a twilight sleep and the stomach is actually seen with the eye of a trained Gastroenterologist. The chest pain you are having is from the gastric acids burning the lower part of your esophagus. It can become very raw, ulcerated, and bleeding from these acids. The meds Prilosec, Prevacid, Acifex, Nexium prevent these acids from being released and therefore not continuing to burn your already raw esophagus causing the pain. I would suggest that you mention trying REGLAN to your physician. It moves the food in your stomach through faster. Diabetics tend to have a condition called gastroporesis (where the food sits in the stomach for a very long time causing you to feel full - often when it is time to eat again. You don't feel hungry so you don't eat. Not taking the meds we have discussed can cause the irritation of your lower esophagus to cause your lower esophagus to look like your stomach-a condition called Barret's Disease. This must be monitored yearly with biopsies obtained to rule out precancerous or cancerous changes. Scarring can also be caused narrowing your esophagus to become narrowed. If your food is getting stuck and never going all the way down before coming back up this is a possibility. You would need to have your esophagus "stretched."

I am assuming that you are taking regularly meds for the lactose intolerance? If not, start tomorrow. You don't need a prescription. They are available over the counter: Lactaid and Dairy ease are the two I use. And, you just have to avoid certain things. I avoid cold cereal with milk, ice cream, Frosty's from Wendy's. You know what makes you sick.

Although the doctors won't actually come right out and say it, IBS main reason is unendurable stress. I can tell you are in that state right now. I'll bet you probably have at least 1 major stressor in your life besides your health. Children, work, finances, husband, Etc. Whatever it is, you have to get rid of it. I too have had IBS several times. When I left two jobs and graduated from college it was gone within two weeks. So look at your life and unload the stressor. Also, sounds like you could use some counseling during this time. Not that your crazy-it just sounds like upu need to talk out some of this stress.

But first of all, make an appointment with a gastroenterologist!
I do not think you are suffering from acid reflux problems only.
This is because with acid reflux, acid comes up your throat and makes you feel uncomfortable; but NOT for the actual food to come back up to your mouth. What you are experiencing is, Regurgitation; which is acid reflux combined with 'food reflux'.
Since you already suffer from IBS (Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome); you are likely to be suffering from some form of bowel obstruction; which may be related to the IBS.
To resolve your problem; you need to see an enterologist ( a doctor who has specialised in the care of the stomach and bowels). He will do a test for you, it is called an ENDOSCOPY.
With this test, the doctor will see clearly, what is causing the 'blockade' or 'reverse perilstasis' (i.e. regurgitation of food back to the mouth from the stomach); and, he will decide on the best treatment for you based on the results of the endoscopy.
If you are in a small country where Endoscopy is not available; the doctor will send you for a barium meal or a barium enema or both. These are common diagnostic tests fror 'peeping' into the stomach and bowels to see what is happening.
Nexium and Prevacid are in the same class of drugs, called PPI's. If one has not helped you, the other may not.
Your doctor should refer you to the internal medicine physician.
Good luck!
I HAVE REFLUX I TAKE NEXIUM A EMERGENCY DOCTOR TOLD ME ABOUT A SUPPLEMENT ITS CALLED PRIMAL DEFENSE YOU CAN GET IT AT HEALTH FOOD STORE IT WORKS ON YOU GI TRACK MAYBE IT WILL WORK FOR YOU
my son had the same symptons as you his next stage was cancer he had to have fudoplacation (short) fundo get scoped see what stage your at he was at 4 he is only 16 and his food came up in his mouth also they treated him for 4 years nothing worked this surgery has did it for him only thing he can't throw up so if you get a virus you have to go to the e.r. so they can keep you from straining the surgery he is doing great now
Are you sure that's what you have? I have been on all of the meds you have took and they all seem to help me over-all. Maybe you need to go to another Doctor for another opinion. It sounds like you have something else wrong.
"Acid Reflux Syndrome" is nothing more than an advertisement for proton-pump inhibitors..a shameless attempt to rename the symptoms as a "disease," and promote toxic substances to momentarily resolve symptoms. The real cause can be completely opposite to conventional medical opinion: low HCL, for instance, allows for H pylori to colonize the gut, and prevents the operation of protease, which is necessary to digest proteins. The resultant putrification causes an irritating gas to model the symptoms of too much HCL. Or, the consumption of two falsely promoted "health foods," Wheat and Dairy, which contain Glue (e.g. Glue-ten in wheat, Casein in dairy - remember Elmer's glue? Whose the mascot? A freakin cow!), cause the body to secrete HCL as a desperate attempt to break down the Glue.
There are so many causes of these symptoms, but none of them are caused by a "lack of drugs." Bad food combining can cause putrification. Antibiotics destroy the bacteria we need to properly break down food, leaving the undigested food for the yeasts and anaerobic bacteria the antibiotics leave behind.

Proton-Pump inhibitors are a bad joke, and the doctors that push them should be charged for their criminally inept recommendations.
