Just found out my father has a stomach tumor. Can anyone share their previous experiences?

Question:
My father went in for endoscopy and GI ultrasound. He has been, for a few weeks, complaining of stomach pain, pain upon eating/drinking water, and constant belching. Endoscopy unveiled a decent size tumor in his stomach, which is currently occupying space in his stomach, and explains his discomfort upon eating/drinking. Ultrasound also showed the mass, but no apparent spread of mass beyond his stomach (I believe). They did a biopsy and CT and we are anxiously waiting for results next week. He has a hx of stomach ulcers, nothing else...

Obviously I am quite worried that this may be malignant. If you or know someone who had a benign OR malignant tumor with similar signs/symptoms, please share your thoughts. I am praying and hoping that it is benign. Thanks!

Answers:
my father was diagnosed with stomach cancer 5 years ago. It is called GIST. The doctors recommended surgery but our family chose to go to mayo clinic. At that time an experimental drug was being used for this cancer and was given to my father. It is called gleevec. (It is now FDA approved). He had 5 tumors, some were the size of a grapefruit. They are now almost non existent. No surgery was necessary and was told this form of cancer should not be treated with surgery. I hope this helps.
My Mom actually had a malignant tumor on her bladder. They took it off and the cancer spread. She had her entire bladder removed and an artificial one was created. She went through chemo and she is now cancer free - for three years now. God bless. I'll say a prayer for your dad.
