How do you heal a hiatal hernia without surgery?

Question:
I have trouble when I eat with the food not wanting to go all the way down and I get really bad heart burn.

Answers:
I've got one too and have since '89.
No non-surgical procedures yet to help it heal back.
I too have experienced the shutdown in peristalysis (swallowing) that you spoke of. Next time it happens to you, excuse yourself and go somewhere private and do some jumping jacks. The gravity will help guide the food down your esophagus.

There are certain foods that I have discovered over time to avoid.
Yellow rice (saffron), is the worse. Be sure to chew hot dogs and chicken very well before swallowing and regulate the size of your bites. Heck, do that with everything you eat.

To take care of the indigestion and heartburn, the fastest treatment I've got is a teaspoon of baking soda in 8oz of cool water. Gulp it down and walk around for a couple of minutes. You can't sit down, you must walk for it to work. The soda neutralizes the acid in your stomach and creates one helluva burp. But it does the trick!

I don't think so, sorry buddy
You can't, but you can do things to make sure it bothers you less. Stop drinking carbonated beverages, tea, and red wine. Don't overeat and never lie down within 2 hours of eating a meal. Avoid fatty foods. All these things will help. Good luck.
If you have actually been diagnosed with hiatal hernia (also called hiatus hernia) by a health care provider then you already know the answer. They don't heal but, with proper management, many people live with them without surgical repair. Eat 6 small meals instead of 3. Avoid overeating, avoid foods with a high acid content and ask your doctor to recommend or prescribe a med for the acid reflux. Stay upright for 45 min to an hour after meals and sleep with two or three pillows -- or put 4-6" block under the head of your bed. These last measures allow gravity to help keep stomach contents where they belong.
