Yes this means you are in ketoacidosis. Your blood sugar has ran so high your body is compensating for it. The fruity odor is a definitive sign of ketoacidosis.

It would be possible for sweat to produce the odor that could result in your hands smelling that way, but I doubt it would be extremely prominent. The more likely culprit would be that as you smell you fingers the odor from your mouth are lingering in your oral/nasal cavity.
get rid of your diabetes. Ask me how. Send me an E-mail at yahoo
not in my experiece..diabetics breath still stinks!
yes, if your breath smells like acetone or very fruity like that, then that is a sign of a major sugar problem. In the body, a chemical that is formed when the body uses fat instead of glucose (sugar) for energy. The formation of acetone means that cells lack insulin or cannot effectively use available insulin to burn glucose for energy. Acetone passes through the body into the urine as one of the so-called ketone bodies.

Acetone is highly volatile. The breath of someone with a great deal of acetone in the body smells fruity and is called "acetone breath."
ROFLOLMAO!
mostly your breath yes. not sure of the skin though. anything is possible
you're breath can, I think that's the smell of acetone which is emitted from decomposing fats in your body because you don't have enough sugar.but I'm not sure about the fingers.
Yes, your sweat can contain sugars and the products of sugars as well as your breath and urine. (Breath, of course will contain volatile products that indicate the existence of sugar in your blood.)

Absolutely! Some people seem to secrete a fruity odor through their skin, especially if their diabetes is not under control.

A diet rich in fats, low in carbohydrates, intended to produce ketone (acetone) in the blood and urine. This type of diet produces "vinegar breath".
Yeah, it can be a warning sign of premature diabetes. Actually I'm not sure about fingers, but definitley in your breath. You would be able to taste it in your own mouth, so it's not only your breath.

However, if you already have diabetes and are taking insulin and stuff, I don't think the "fruity odor" is a result of it.

Good luck.
