You may see one or more of the following:
yellowing of the skin and of the "whites of the eyes"
swelling in the extremeties, especially the legs.
Itchy skin.
Confusion and talking out of their head as the ammonia level increases.
An uncle in-law was just diagnosed with this.
He can only drink a few ounces of water everyday. The food he is allowed to have looks like baby formula. Anything more than that and his liver can no longer handle it and he goes into toxic shock. Sweating, yellowed skin and eyes and a fever all happen within hours of him eating too much.
It isn't pleasant and hopefully his passing won't be too much more horrendous.
He is also very angry and depressed. He did this to himself and there is no way they can fix it. He isn't elligble for a transplant because the damage was caused by alcohol.
So if the person you know falls into the same boat expect lots of self-loathing and bitterness towards the medical teams. A person that is dying is going to be depressed regardless.
Good luck and best wishes.
Skin turning yellow, bloating from water not being excreted, nausea and vomiting. general weakness, eventually coma and death.
Bloating then modleing which is internal bleeding that looks like brusing at the liver area then down the inner right thigh.Itook care of my mother her last two weeks.
