abdominal ultrasound.. bladder problem?

Question:
hey guys I had an abdominal and pelvic ultrasound and they found some kidney stones. The doctor mentioned that I didn't seem to empty my bladder as much as one normally should during the ultrasound. I was wondering what this could mean and if an ultrasound detects bladder tumors. I'm 25 years old and have had urinary problems for about 7 years now. Thanks so much

Answers:
Urinary problems such as incomplete emptying of the bladder and kidney stones are strong indications in my book for you to be seen by a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the urinary tract, and that would be a urologist.

Kidney stones can be a very painful, yes, an incapacitating type of pain and they can lodge in the ureter at any time and that usually happens at the most inoportune time in one's life, such as when one is miles and miles away from medical care.

If you were 57 or 67, bladder emptying would not be as big a deal, but even then, a urologic evaluation would be indicated.

So, don't run, but walk with all deliberate speed to an appointment with a urologist. Be sure the urologist knows that you have already had the ultrasound study, in order that your films can be reviewed by him at the time of your appointment.

This will probably save you an extra visit in the long run.

And, as previously noted, you may very well need to undergo a cystoscopy. The urologist will explain all of this to you.

Bladder tumors would be quite rare in a man your age, but you definitely need further evaluation of the stones and possible obstruction of your lower urinary tract.

Did the Doctor tell you about the bladder or the Technician?
If the doctor told you, he would have told you if there was a tumor.
Relax, Kidney stones are bad enough and hopefully once you get rid of them you can urinate better.Tiny stones could be in your Urethra and cause problems. But you've taken the proper steps and will find out soon.
Good Luck
Yes, an ultrasound would detect a tumor. Hopefully when you get rid of the kidney stones, your bladder should work normally.
An ultra sound could miss the tumors if they are not big enough. Ask your doctor for scope up the urithea it is kinda painful but that way you can be sure. If you have tumors it is easy to get rid of them with lazer surgery . You hardly feel that. It could also be an overactive bladder, that is when your bladder does contrations cotinously. That is wy you can't emty your bladder normaly. And if that is what it is a pill a day can help that problem. Good Luck and i hope my answer helped.
Please see the webpages for more details on Kidney stones. It appears that you have not emptied your urine from the bladder completely. This (the retention of residuary urine) usually happens in older persons having enlarged prostrated gland. The underlying cause should be investigated.
Post micturision residual urine in the bladder is normal ranging from 50 - 75 ml , ultrasound can detect mass but its nature can be decided by taking a piece of it [biopsy] and ex amened by microscope .Your urinary problems can be solved by simple tests like urine examination chemically and microscopically and blood chemistry like urea and creatinine to have a comprehensive idea about your urinary tract . finally your kidney stones if it is small and dose not cause symptoms , forget it . follow up is necessary.
