would it be a danger, unpleasant, and/or just useless to insufflate 3% hydrogen peroxide, as a lavage?

I would advise against the hydrogen peroxide solution. It can be great for cleaning the ears, but pretty harsh on already tender and inflamed nasal cavities. It can dry them out to the point of nose bleeds and then you can get a sinus infection for sure. Sinus cavities (there are several around your nose/face/forehead) fill with mucus when germs invade. The salt water solution has an anti infection benefit and I would keep using that. You could try over the counter allergy medication to keep the nasty effects of a head cold to a minimum. I love the triaminic patches for kids (cherry menthol) or vics for nighttime sleeping to help with breathing/coughing. Also, hot tea. Ginger is good for keeping the chest clear so you could throw a little of that in too. Add a little honey if you need a sweet taste. It would also be good to gargle with salt water as well. If you get really stuffy (in the nose), run a hot shower and breathe in the humid air or heat water to boiling in a pot and take off the burner, do not lean too close but close enough to gently inhale the steam, as it cools you can put a towel over your head and lean over a little closer. Do not burn yourself! Steam can burn! Lots of sleep. Try zinc lozenges if you can bear them! Cold clothe on your forehead for fever and warm for sinus pressure. Feel better soon. :)

I pour it inmy ear when I get an infection but the sinuses are right next to the brain. I wouldnt do it if I were you
the last time I had a lavage, it got stuck in my throat and I had to spit it out.
You should definitly pour hydrogen peroxide all over your face. It'll clear away all the dead cells.
a cold generally doesn't make you have a headache or have general malaise. it has to be more than that. since it is definitely upper respiratory...taking any type of allergy medication like Claritin (which is over the counter now) will definitely help some.
Doesn't sound critical at this point and I wouldn't get shook up about it. Give your body a rest for a couple days, take in lots of juices and nutritious foods...but no dairy of any sort as dairy causes mucus membranes to over produce making your situation worse.
I am a mom...been there...done it...wiped my noses...cleaned my puke and they all survived.
You seem like a cool person. I like the way you talk. And you are sick even.
It pisses me off too when people challenge you on your own diagnosis of yourself . . . like , you feel sick . . and they have to F with you on top of that . . and you know what difference does it make if you are wrong about virus vs. bacteria anyway (in this case, given what you are considering: a lavage)? It's not gonna hurt you if you were wrong about virus vs. bacteria. It's only gonna hurt you if what you are trying is inherently/intrinsically dangerous. I don't know if it is. Sorry about this.
Also, the word you were maybe looking for is "rev-up". But you are sick with a fever so . . .you know. : ) Feel Better.
Sounds like you have a cold that is mostly settling in your head. Too much spray up your nose of any kind is not good. I would definitely not use the hydrogen peroxide though.
Look, just get yourself some garlic cloves, crush them up (two or three of them should be sufficient). Make yourself a sandwich (as you will need something to eat the garlic with unless you are truly brave). Make yourself a cup of tea with honey and lemon to wash down the sandwich. If you wish, you could have a bowl of chicken soup (can be from a can, does not have to be home made - might want to add some of the garlic to the soup). The garlic has some kind of infection fighting power over the cold, tea with honey and lemon will soothe your throat, and the steamy vapours from the hot tea and/or the soup will help to clear your sinuses. Oh ya, and rest as you feel the need, but if you can, try to walk around for a bit. Too much lazing shows that little cold bug a sign of giving in. Fight it!! And get well soon!
Hear me now, believe me later.
Based on your history thus far, it sounds to me like you have contracted one of the many viruses that cause infection of the upper respiratory tract.
The headache and yellow mucus are probably the result of swelling of the mucus membrane of the nose, which can lead to obstruction of one or more sinus cavities and become secondarily infected. This will clear once the edema of the nasal membranes improves.
If I had your complex of symptoms, I would not use H2O2, it's a nice theory, but not a useful procedure for this illness.
i would rest as much as possible, keep the air in the room humidified, use Afrin sparingly to improve the edema of the nasal cavity, take Tylenol or Excedrin for pain and general discomfort, keep myself well-hydrated and realize that a URI will be symptomatic for 5 to 10 days as a general rule. Remember that Nyquil and Dayquil are "shotgun" types of OTC medications for people with a URI and want some symptomatic relief. Also, no beverage alcohol.
If your symptoms become worse, don't resolve in 10 to 14 days, or you develop chills and/or fever, then you should definitely consider seeing a physician for further evaluation.
Hope this is helpful.
