Chocolate Allergy?

Is anyone familiar with an allergy to chocolate which causes severe behavior concerns such as biting, hitting, in a young child
who otherwise displays no inappropriate behaviors?

Answers:
I don't think this is a true allergy, but there is a condition where exposure to certain substances can cause imbalances that will result in inappropriate behaviors such as you describe. And when I eat too much sugar and don't get enough rest, I know I'm an emotional basketcase. Some years ago there was an article in Reader's Digest about what you describe- and when the parents found out what was going on, they removed the offending substances from the boy's diet, and never had any problems with him after that. Good luck!

I was allergic to chocolate, milk and sugar when I was a kid. I didnt freak out at all, but it did cramp up my legs so that I could not walk. I have since grown out of it, but I want to watch my son with chocolate. Good luck, try and call a durmatologist to test for his alergies.

How come my daughter,15 y/o still had laboured breathing and lots of phlegms after tracheotomy?

if the results of eating chocolate is biting an hitting only, that is not a true allergy. a true allergy is if the child ate the chocolae and had a prophylatic response, such as redness, itching etc.. suggesting an allergy. it seems that the child is being hyperactive to having too much caffeine. chocolate contains small amounts of caffeine and depending on how much other caffeinated products being ingested, the child may be sensitive to the effects of caffeine

Allergies are not displayed by good or bad behavior.
My son has severe allergies.(Nuts, peanutbutter) Chocolate was one of them. He has out grown it now but he would react by hives, itching, whelps, trouble breathing.

I'm having a stress echo test tomorrow at 2, how long should it take before I know any results?

As a certified Allergist/Immunologist, I can say to sure surely as can be, that there is no such "allergy" to chocolate!! There IS caffeine however in chocolate, and I suppose it is possible to have an exaggerated response to that chemical's stimulant effects.
GOOD LUCK (P.S., I'd look at "OTHER" reasons for such behaviors first!).

Itchy Red Bumps on Forearms?

My brother in law is allergic to chocolate. It causes him to hallucinate. Of my 3 kids, 2 have food allergies. One is allergic to dairy and peanuts and the other is allergic to apples, bananas, pears, sweet potatos and maybe dairy.

Don't let anyone tell you that food allergies do not cause behavior reactions. They do! Along with all the other things you hear about (ie runny nose, hives, breathing troubles, diarrhea, etc.).

Depending on the age of the child, I would opt for some allergy testing that included foods. (Doctors differ on when to allergy test.)
