Answers:
I have been wearing a Medtronic pump for about 6 years. I love it. Their website is www.medtronic.com. I just upgraded to the newest one. Paradiam 715. I love it. It is menu driven so I test my blood sugars, the meter sends a radio wave to my pump with my reading, I enter the amt of carbs I will be eating and the pump calculates the dose of insulin. It also figures in how much insulin I have on board and makes corrections for that. Any other questions email me. There are several mfg out there. Disatronic is another one.

I think that the Animas IR1200 or Animas IR1250 are excellent. I have a 1200, and i love it! It have 4 basal profiles, does carbohydrate caculations, blood sugar cacluations, "square" boluses" and has a huge memory. Plus, the customer service I get at Animas is excellent. They have trained nurses on call 24 hours a day. They send me reminder notices of when i need uspplies. A rep even came and trained me on a new infusion set they had out. The pump is uber easy to use (the 1250 is even easier to use than the 1200, since it has a list of food already programed into it).

There are a couple of considerations with it, though. It only holds 2 mL (200 units), (which is four days of insulin for me, since I use about 50 units a day), and it comes unprimed a lot. (I have a 12 hour auto-off setting, where if i don't touch my pump for 12 hours, it will alarm and become unprimed, so that's a pain).

I had a minimed (now Medtronic) for four years, but they don't make the pump I had anymore. It was really reliable, but the medtronic customer service was really bad. The new pumps (when I was looking at a new one, two years ago) were unreliable, and they had the same features, so I went with the Animas. I'm glad I did.

I use the Paradigm 715 and really love it. I'm thinking of upgrading where it can monitor you all day long and then you don't have to prick your finger all the time. Try www.medtronicminimed.com for more information. Good luck. Get out online and start calling the different pump manufacturers. Every single one of them will happily forward you a package of information describing their pump's features and benefits. Minimed just hit the market with a Pump and Continious Glucose Monitoring System which will help eliminate the need to prick your finger so often. This technology also continiously monitors your glucose once every 7 minutes I believe and then your glucoses are shown in "real time" format.

I have only had experiences with Minimed in the 5 years I have been on the pump. I have been a type I diabetic since I was 13 months old and I firmly believe there a lot of great pumps on the market with their own individual advantages.
