How long does it take to produce lung cancer from smoking? can i get a ratio or sumthing pack per day etc...

Question:

Answers:
It depends on the person and there is no ratio for this. My dad smoked all his life and died at the age of 84 but not from lung cancer. My mom died of lung cancer when she was 65 and she smoked all her life as well. You'll never know. However, smoking causes other types of cancer such as pancreatic cancer, kidney cancer, cancer of the throat, the mouth and esophagus. Smoking causes Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Decease including emphysema, which is not reversible. Smoking causes strokes as well. See it is not all about the lungs it is much more involved. Set a quitting date and do it, it is never to late.
The amount I have heard most often is that 20 pack-years will make cancer likely. In other words 20 years at 1 pack a day, or 10 years at 2 packs a day.
From another approach, I have heard that most of the damage leading to cancer comes after the age of 30, when the bodies ability to repair itself starts to decline.
Of course some people are more resistant to cancer and some less, so it's only a ballpark figure.
My husband was a heavy smoker, he stopped very easily however, 25 yrs later he had lung cancer, got over that then he had brain cancer, I supposed if you stop smoking one could always have yearly test. yet there are people who have never smoked who get lung cancer.
nice wording fob
my son in law died from smoking related lung cancer when he was 28 years old

my father died of the same thing when he was 78 years old

it's a crap shoot
DON'T SMOKE
It's important to remember that lung cancer is not the only cancer caused by smoking. Cancer of the mouth, throat, larynx, as well as stomach and bladder cancer are also very common.
