what's vazovagal?

Question:

Answers:
It is a nerve that controls the functions of many of your body's systems and it is attached to your spinal chord. I have syncope, which is where my stomach has spasms accompanied by extreme pain. The pain makes me tense up and I believe that causes my nerve to be sort of pinched. If the nerve is pinched for too long your body shuts down like a heart attack victim. I have passed out on several occasions. I am now on a medication to control the spasms, so the attacks have been less frequent. You can have testing done by your doctor if this is happening to you and they can see if you are having problems due to sudden change in blood pressure or what else may be the cause.
It is vasovagal. This refers to an event that stimulates your 10th cranial nerve called the Vagus Nerve. When you stimulate it, it causes your heart rate to go down. Sometimes it can slow down so much that you can pass out. This is common in old people who are trying to poop and pass out on the toilet. They are bearing down so much that their vagus nerve is inervated and blood going to the brain is too low and they pass out. You can vasovagal in many ways. I tend to when I have blood drawn. I get so anxiouse that I hold my breath and start to bear down and end up getting dizzy a little.
